Project Description - Bespoke Furniture

The Plùstic Lab project is a prime example of how design and sustainability can coexist. We developed a custom-made mobile station bar created with recycled plastic boxes. We embraced circular design principles to construct this product from waste materials. In our sustainability lab, we strive to make the most out of polymers and transform plastic residues into design pieces.

Project Challenges

Plastic pollution is one of the biggest challenges of our modern era. We wanted to do our part in mitigating this issue by creating a product that was not unique and colorful but also respectful of the environment. Our challenge was to develop a design employing as much recycled plastic as possible, resulting in a product that used over 20kg of recycled plastic.

The result was a folding metal structure covered in recycled plastic, made to be transported to various events as a cocktail bar. Our circular design approach and recycled plastic ensured the product was functional and sustainable. It was also visually appealing and colorful, drawing the attention of event-goers. We were proud to have successfully demonstrated how design and sustainability can work together to create beautiful and functional products.

Youth Forum

The Recycled Option is a project to refurbish old furniture and create modern designs from scrap materials or broken stuff. The project was organized by the local Common House with the coordination of the «Youth Forum.» This social project aims to integrate immigrants and refugees into the upcycling process and a circular economy. The idea behind Recycled Option is to create new pieces of furniture from old, discarded ones and reduce waste.

Project Challenges:
This project’s biggest challenge was involving people unfamiliar with the upcycling process and teaching them how to create new pieces of furniture from old, discarded ones. The project team had to devise easy-to-follow instructions and find ways to make the process accessible to everyone. Despite language and cultural barriers, they also had to find ways to integrate immigrants and refugees into the project.
